Timothy Peng is a unique combination of both pianist and piano technician. He has a Master’s Degree in Piano Performance from the University of Massachusetts, Lowell, and studied for two years at the North Bennet Street School in Boston where he received a thorough training of tuning, repairs, action regulation, and complete piano rebuilding. He feels privileged to be active in these two distinct fields and to experience how they benefit each other.
Timothy is a Registered Piano Technician (RPT) and a member of the Piano Technicians Guild. As an RPT, he has passed a series of three examinations covering all aspects of piano technology. The examinations included a written test, covering general knowledge of pianos and piano technology; a technical examination, which includes action regulation and adjustment; and a standardized tuning examination.
A strong believer in the benefits of working in music camps, Timothy has worked at both the Interlochen Center for the Arts in Interlochen, Michigan, and the New England Music Camp in Sidney, Maine. Both experiences have broadened his expertise in teaching piano and working as a technician.
